[BARDI entrevista]
[VIVÊNCIA PROGRAM] LUIS URCULO AT CASA DE VIDRO – PART 1 AND 2
The Casa de Vidro, a work of relevance in Brazil and internationally, is beyond its architectural significance and reveals important material and immaterial presences. The legacy of Lina and Pietro Maria Bardi inspires the Institute’s contemporary mission.
It is in this context that we welcomed the artist Luis Urculo to develop his INTIMIDAD project within the [Vivência Program] at Casa de Vidro, in November 2021.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The [Vivência Program] aims to support early-career contemporary artists in the development of projects inspired by the iconic Casa de Vidro designed by Lina Bo Bardi for her and her husband Pietro Maria Bardi, in São Paulo. The program is a smaller version of an “artistic residency”, in which a selected artist is invited to experience the House (during working hours) for up to one month and develop work in connection with this experience.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Luis Urculo lives and works between Madrid and Mexico City.
His practice takes anthropology, archeology and criminology as a main references of phenomenology to create lines of investigation based on reconstructions, timelines, interpretations, uncertain materialities, imprecise descriptions, or ambiguities. Fiction, and representation of diverse domestic geographies have been the language and scenarios used to create his work.
The artist had his works exhibited in the The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), The Art Institute (Chicago), MAXXI (Rome), MAC Museum of Contemporary Art of Santiago (Chile), Tokyo Wonder Site (Japan), Storefront for Art & Architecture (New York), XIth Venice Biennial – Spanish pavilion, Lisbon Triennale, La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Centro Pecci (Prato), Matadero (Madrid), Centro Parraga, Hangar (Brussels), Montevideo Biennial, Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho (Chile), Centro Cultural de España en Buenos Aires (Argentina), Parque Cultural Valparaiso (Chile), National Glyptoteque (Athens), Sala Gasco (Chile).
