LE MOBILIER D'ARCHITECTES, 1960-2020

Organized by the Cité de l’Architecture & du Patrimoine, the exhibition Le Mobilier d’Architectes, 1960-2020 focused on the production of furniture pieces, lighting fixtures and other products developed by architects. From the proposed time frame, from 1960 to the present day, the exhibition presented around 300 pieces displayed throughout the Cité.

Based on research on the role of architects as designers, the Cité de l’Architecture & du Patrimoine organized the exhibition that highlighted pieces of furniture, lamps and other objects designed by such professionals. With about 300 pieces, more than 120 architects from different origins were represented and whose production extends back to the 1960s. Until this period, the furniture produced by architects from the Bauhaus, Art Deco or Vienna Secession was studied in their due importance, but it came to be practically disregarded in research on more recent architects. This exhibition was presented, therefore, as an attempt to resume this study.

Lina Bo Bardi was included in this selection with her Girafa chair, designed in 1987 for use at Casa do Benin in Bahia, in Salvador.
