DESIGN DE MOBILIÁRIO BRASILEIRO: A ÚLTIMA EXPRESSÃO DO MODERNISMO

The exhibition Design of Brazilian Furniture: The Last Expression of Modernism was organized by the Embassy of Brazil in Tokyo, seeking to promote Brazilian modern design in Japan through its great national exponents.

The exhibition was organized by the Embassy of Brazil in Tokyo, bringing together pieces of furniture from some of the main names in Brazilian design at its headquarters. The very short exhibition was part of the Embassy’s efforts to promote Brazilian design in the Japanese culture and specialized market, featuring iconic pieces representing the main elements of modern production in the country.

In addition to furniture pieces, the spaces dedicated to each designer dealt with their works in images and general lines, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of Brazilian production. José Zanine Caldas, Giuseppe Scapinelli, Jean Gillon, Sergio Rodrigues, Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Jorge Zalszupin, Oscar Niemeyer and Lina Bo Bardi make up the pantheon of representatives of modern design in Brazil. From the architect of Italian origin, the exhibition included pieces designed since her arrival in the country she would choose to become a citizen until her last years of production, defining a path that marked the development of Brazilian design.
