ARQUIVO PETER SCHEIER
IMS PAULISTA
São Paulo Brazil
January 25th – May 17th, 2020
In Arquivo Peter Scheier, Instituto Moreira Salles exhibited part of its collection in this exhibition dedicated to the German artist who established his career as a photographer in Brazil. The exhibition focused on his production carried out between the 1940s and 1970s. The exhibition was curated by Heloisa Espada.
Through Studio Peter Scheier, the photographer worked in Brazil from the early 1940s until 1975, when he returned to Germany with his wife. The IMS collection, which included around 35,000 images of his authorship, was the object of an immersive research, which resulted in a representative selection of Scheier’s production.
Among the photographs on display were images from the 1950s of the Glass House, a project by Lina Bo Bardi. Peter Scheier collaborated with the architect on several projects, photographing her constructed work and other initiatives carried out by her and her husband, Pietro Maria Bardi. In addition to the Casa de Vidro, highlights of the exhibition were the records made by Scheier during the first years of the São Paulo Museum of Art and his important and pioneering exhibitions, organized by the couple who had just arrived in Brazil.
