W. WOMEN IN ITALIAN DESIGN

Women in Italian Design set up the ninth edition of the Triennale Design Museum and set out to recount the history of Italian design under a gender approach, seeking to establish fairer narratives for women who dedicated themselves to this production.

Curated by Silvana Annichiarico, the Triennale Design Museum proposed a new narrative for the history of Italian design, which addressed the gender perspective in design, one of the most problematic aspects of the professional sphere in this area. Seeking to build fairer narratives, figures, theories and approaches to 20th century design were rearticulated and rethought for a production more suited to the reality of creation and production in the field of design.

Women designers who were disregarded by the history and theory of design were highlighted in this exhibition, making these trajectories available to the younger generations of professionals. These names, previously unknown by traditional and sexist historiography, are now accompanying future designers, who are increasingly numerous in design university courses around the world. It is in this context that projects for furniture pieces by Lina Bo Bardi were presented: the architect, despite having been recognized while still alive for an architectural work, did not have the same experience in relation to her work as a designer.
