Lina Bo Bardi and Giancarlo Palanti: Studio d’Arte Palma, 1948-1951 was the first exhibition to analyze the work of architects as a duo. The exhibition focused on the projects carried out for the Studio d’Arte Palma, an initiative signed in São Paulo at the end of the 1940s.
The exhibition Lina Bo Bardi and Giancarlo Palanti: Studio d’Arte Palma, 1948-1951 was organized by the Milanese gallery Nilufar, being first presented in their warehouse and marking their participation in the Milan Design Week 2018. The following year, it was represented at Gladstone 64 gallery, in New York, and, finally, at the Design Museum Gent, for its third tour.
Inspired by the gallery of the same name, founded in 1944 by Pietro Maria Bardi, in Rome, Studio d’Arte Palma was a space dedicated to architecture and design, the company through which Lina Bo Bardi and Giancarlo Palanti worked professionally at the beginning of their careers in Brazil. For Studio, the architects designed emblematic pieces of furniture. The exhibition is part of the research around this partnership that has been little explored in its details and corrects mistakes reproduced in the scarce material available on the subject. It was the first exhibition dedicated to the theme, enabling a better understanding of the work of Lina Bo Bardi, as well as the recognition of Giancarlo Palanti as a designer.
